The “Best Tourism Villages” initiative is one of the pillars of the UNWTO program – “Tourism for Rural Development”. Every year, UNWTO recognizes the best tourist villages as destinations where tourism preserves culture and tradition, supports diversity and provides opportunities for biodiversity conservation, that is, those villages that stand out for their commitment to sustainability in all its aspects (economic, social and environmental).
UNWTO member states participate in the competition with a maximum of 8 applications (villages) per member state.
The deadline for submitting applications to the UNWTO is June 23, 2023, and the winners will be announced at the end of the year.
